Laurier Optical was created in 1985 and was purchased by Mr. Tony Kechichian in 1989. At that time it was a single location on Laurier Street in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with 3 employees including Mr. Kechichian. Over the next fifteen years, the business grew and developed, increasing and expanding until today. Laurier Optical currently boasts 33 locations throughout Ontario and Québec with a total annual revenue exceeding 27 million dollars.

The company philosophy was clear and simple; treat the customer like family while offering them the best products at a fair price and you create a customer for life. To do this, Laurier Optical has aggressively sought out new and innovative styles and products while always keeping an eye on both the real and perceived value to the customer. The company has endeavored to work closely with it suppliers, forging strong relationships that have benefited both parties and have led to long term growth.

In the challenging retail world, Laurier Optical has managed to maintain its core principles and after fifteen years consumers have come to expect certain things from their Laurier Optical experience. Consumer's know that they will be treated fairly, that they will be offered product that meets their needs, that they will have access to the newest and most cutting edge product on the market and that the corporation as a whole stands proudly behind what it sells. Laurier Optical strives on a daily basis to make good on its promise of value to the consumer, and in doing so, it has created customers for life.

With 33 locations throughout Ontario and Québec, Laurier Optical has faced a number of challenges stemming from distribution to demographics. Getting the right product to the right customer as efficiently as possible. In response to this, Optical Vision of Canada was created to centralize purchasing for all Laurier Optical stores. This innovation to the distribution process has allowed the individual Laurier Optical stores to place orders collectively, receive more diverse product ranges and obtain volume discounts. This translates to greater responsiveness to the customer needs and heightened value.

The company was founded on the principals of family and loyalty and has grown in a manner befitting the family. Over the years new members have joined and the company has evolved to accommodate them. Some associates have embraced the challenge of operating with a large degree of independence and have opened franchise stores. These franchises offer an opportunity to obtain a certain measure of autonomy while still keeping strong ties and relations with the parent company. Like a parent, the corporation is there to offer assistance and advise in times of need and act as a unifying presence for all aspects of the business.

Laurier Optical stands as a testament to one man's simple philosophy, a philosophy that has developed into a corporate culture. A sense of family that has drawn like-minded individuals together, strengthened them and developed loyalty in the fickle world of retail.
